Trying to find out the use of SSP's by the MA State Police!...

The journey begins...my 1990 NCSHP SSP Mustang

My 1990 NCSHP SSP Mustang
My 1990 Special Service Package Mustang was originally purchased and owned by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP). The Fixed Asset System (FAS) number is 781074 and the PIN number is 0112.  In August 2009 I became the owner of this SSP Mustang when I purchased it from Lennie Garner of Raleigh, North Carolina. My goal in purchasing this SSP is to return it back to an NCSHP Mustang SSP in-service condition.

This is one of the few NCSHP SSP's, which have been returned to the correct black and silver paint scheme for marked vehicles. Specifically I am aware of two (2) returned to the NCSHP black and silver paint scheme, with Jeff Allen's being the other.  Many of the NCSHP Mustangs were unmarked units and therefore not painted black and silver.  Just prior to auctioning off their marked black and silver Mustangs, the NCSHP repainted them in various colors (e.g. blue, white, black, red).  In the case of my vehicle, it was painted blue just prior to being auctioned to its' first civilian owner, and then returned to black and silver by the owner prior to myself. This SSP is accompanied by documentation, which proves it was originally a black and silver marked unit.

I have already made significant progress obtaining and installing period correct equipment in this SSP.  To my great fortune I have been able to make several contacts with first hand knowledge that have educated me on the correct equipment setup my Mustang would have had.  In order to share this information with the SSP community, I have authored an NCSHP SSP Mustang Restoration Guidebook.  This document will be published and available in limited quantities later this year.

Growning up in Missouri, during infrequent weekend trips home to St. Louis from college, the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) Mustangs were a frequent sight on I-70 and the rural highways of Boone and Howard County. I have always believed Mustang SSP's were the coolest cars on the roads. The NCSHP has perhaps the most attractive paint scheme (black and silver) of any State Police agency. I am excited to be a part of preserving this wonderful piece of law enforcement and automotive history.
